The eye area is the most delicate skin on the face, and it is usually the first place where signs of aging appear. Fine lines, crow’s feet, dark circles, under-eye bags, puffiness, loss of firmness and dryness can result in an aged appearance which may impact one’s overall appearance.
Eye rejuvenation treatments focus on improving the appearance of the eye area to reverse signs of aging by tightening the skin around the eyes, smoothing out wrinkles and restoring lost volume.
Botulinum Toxin: Botulinum Toxin is injected superficially into the dermis layer of the skin where it relaxes facial muscles and reduces muscle contraction by temporarily blocking their nerve impulses. The treated eye area will appear smoother with reduced lines and wrinkles.
Polynucleotide-based injectable gel: Polynucleotides (PN) DNA based injectable gels such as Plinest and Rejuran I are designed to treat skin concerns surrounding the periorbital area and eye contour. They prompt your body’s fibroblast production to promote collagen production and hydration, resulting in the reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Exilis Elite 360: Exilis Elite 360 uses a combination of radiofrequency (RF) and ultrasound energy to heat the deep layers of the skin whilst protecting the outer layer. The heat causes the collagen-supporting tissues to remodel, thus stimulating and strengthening the collagen network to improve droopy eyes and loose skin/wrinkles under the eyes.
Ultherapy: Ultherapy® uses high intensity focused ultrasound to target the deep layers of the skin under the fat layer (Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System, or SMAS) to stimulate collagen production and promote skin contraction for lifting and tightening. It can enhance the appearance of puffy eyes and tighten loose skin around the eyes, resulting in a more youthful eye area.
Tear trough refers to the under-eye hollowing that deepens with age, causing the area under the eye to appear sunken and tired. The solution for sunken tear troughs would be volume replacement, to address the collagen and fat loss due to age.
Deusaderm: Deusaderm is a biocompatible and biodegradable injectable collagen gel which enables the skin to restore lost collagen in the dermis by triggering the regeneration of dermis cells. It fills in pure collagen into the dermis to restore the lost volume and improve the overall appearance of dark circles and sunken tear troughs.
Dermal Fillers: Dermal fillers containing hyaluronic acid gels are administered to the under-eye area to help fill the hollowing and replenish the volume lost due to the aging process. Results are usually immediate and by addressing the sunken appearance, the eye area will look refreshed and less tired.
Hooded eyelids are when the skin above the eye sags and hangs over the eye. The excess skin occurs between the brow and the upper lash line. They’re usually caused by a variety of factors, including age and genetics. When eyes are hooded, the sagging skin may cover all or part of the eyelid, causing a crease and making the eyelid/eyes appear smaller.
Botulinum Toxin: Botulinum toxin for hooded eyes, also known as a brow lift, works by relaxing the muscles around the eyes and between the brows, which then lifts the eyebrow to a higher position. It can help to open up the eyes, resulting in a brighter look.
Dermal Fillers: Since hooded eyelids are often caused by the loss of structure around the eyes, adding a dermal filler to the upper eyelid to replace the volume loss can provide a lift to the eyebrows and decrease the droopiness.
Dermal filler is most often added to the temples and in between the brows for this treatment, to smoothen the area and temporarily lift the eyelids.
Laser Resurfacing: Laser resurfacing works by tightening the skin around the eyes while heating the layers of the eyelid skin to enhance collagen production. This helps by ablating loose skin around the eyes for a non-surgical eye lift, while the treated area heals to result in a smoother, more even skin tone.
Ultherapy Brow Lift: Ultherapy uses non-invasive micro-focused ultrasound technology to stimulate and remodel collagen and elastin at a targeted depth. When collagen and elastin are restructured, they will lift the sagging skin at the temple and brow to give the eye a refreshed and youthful look while keeping it looking natural.
As with any cosmetic enhancements, it is essential to consult a doctor to ascertain which treatment is a suitable option for you depending on your individual needs and goals. A combination of treatments may also be recommended to achieve desired results.
