Facial ageing is a gradual and complex process that affects everyone. As we age, changes in the soft tissue (fat and muscle) and bone of the face result in visible signs of ageing, including pronounced nasolabial folds, marionette lines, jowling, and skin laxity.
Facial contouring, also known as facial sculpting, is a procedure that reshapes the face to enhance or improve facial features and reduce the appearance of ageing. Restoring volume to key areas in the face can lead to a natural lift which will shave off years of ageing from a person’s face resulting in a fresher and more youthful, balanced appearance.
Facial Contouring Treatments
Facial contouring can be achieved by non-invasive or invasive means. The effects may be temporary or permanent, depending on the mode of treatment chosen. Each treatment will be customised to fit the needs of each individual. This may involve a combination of treatments.
Non-invasive treatments include:
Botulinum Toxin is injected very superficially into the dermis layer of the skin where it causes contraction and tightening of the skin without affecting the muscles of facial expression. In the lower face, the jawline will look more defined and the jowls improved whilst in the upper face, the eyes will look more lifted and less tired.
Dermal fillers can be used on different areas of the face and there are different fillers for specific purpose, depending on your needs and the extent of your volume loss or the area you would like to add volume to.
Dermal fillers differ in chemical makeup, longevity and have varying degrees of softness. Softer HA (Hyaluronic acid) fillers are used in the lips and eyes, while firm and thicker ones might be desired to enhance jawline and chin area.
Volumising fillers are used to re-shape and sculpt the face, aside from adding volume to the face. These can be used for cheek/mid-face area and temples.
