Hyaluronic - Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are used to restore volume to the face as well as to enhance existing facial features. As we age, our skin begins to lose elasticity and natural hydration. This, combined with the effects of gravity, can lead to lines wrinkles and sagging of the skin. Restoring volume to key areas in the face can lead to a natural lift which helps to shave off some signs of ageing from a person’s face resulting in a fresher and more youthful, balanced appearance.

Which areas can be treated with Dermal Fillers?

Tear Trough / Dark Eye Circles

Majority of patients as early as in their 30’s complain of hollow, sunken under eye circles resulting in a daily feeling of looking tired and old. This area requires precise placement of the product to achieve a fresher and less tired under eye appearance.

Nasolabial / Smile Lines

These are the lines that form between the lower nose and corners of the mouth which deepen with age. New techniques of treating this area now address the root cause which comes from volume loss in the mid cheek, whereas older techniques used to result in a “sausage” appearance in the nasolabial region. Gentle restoration of volume loss in the mid face followed by subsequent treatment of the nasolabial results in a natural youthful and freshened appearance.

V-Shape

HA fillers can also be used to achieve the much coveted V-shape face by improving the appearance of the chin. The results for the V-shape is better achieved when combined with other treatments to slim the jawline.

What happens after the procedure?

Mild swelling and bruising may occur depending on the individual and the areas treated, which usually last about a week or so. Normal activities can be resumed after the procedure but vigorous exercise and exposure to extreme heat should be avoided to prevent worsening of swelling or bruising.

What is the procedure like?

Before any dermal filler injection, our doctor will discuss with the patient to lay out the treatment plan. The skin is then prepared with numbing cream for about 30 minutes to improve the patient’s comfort level.

During the procedure itself, dermal fillers are administered using small needles or blunt needles called cannulas. The whole procedure usually does not take long depending on the treatment areas. Results are usually visible after one treatment and the patients are reviewed at 2 weeks by our doctors for any fine-tuning if needed.

Types of Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers can be used on different areas of the face. There are different fillers for specific purposes, depending on your needs and the extent of your volume loss or the area you would like to add volume to. Dermal fillers can be grouped into two types :

Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers
Non-HA or collagen-stimulating fillers

HA is a natural compound found in our skin, and is responsible for many functions in our body. Each dermal filler brand differs in chemical makeup, longevity and have varying degrees of softness.
