Removing hair from various parts of your body may be done for hygiene or aesthetic purposes. Targeted areas include legs, arms, underarms and bikini areas and it is not exclusive to the ladies.
This can be done anytime at your convenience. The results tend to be short-lived with repeated shaving required once every few days to maintain the results as it only severs hair at the skin level. There is also a risk of skin irritation, developing ingrown hairs and cutting yourself.
Depilatories penetrate to and through the follicle but do not target the root of the hair. It can be fast and easy if done correctly. As it may contain strong chemicals, one needs to exercise caution and follow the instructions to avoid burns, skin rash, uneven aftereffects.
This involves pulling the hair out of the root eg plucking, threading, waxing. Exfoliating the skin helps to prepare it for epilation and prevent ingrown hairs. Some may feel discomfort especially when doing it for the first time. Patience is required as the epilator goes over the targeted area so as not to break the hair, which can become ingrown or infected.
IPL uses the light as pulses for hair removal. The hairs absorb the light emitted and the absorbed light is converted to heat which in turn causes the hair to fall out. Note that IPL may not be suitable for those with darker skin tones.
Laser hair removal whereby the laser beams target the hair follicles, whereby the pigment absorbs the light and destroys the hair. While this is likely to be the most expensive option amongst the other treatments, you are likely to require fewer sessions to remain hair free for a longer period. You may experience redness and skin irritation immediately after the treatment that are usually temporary. There may be pigment changes depending on your skin tone.
