How Does Laser Therapy Treat Vaginal Laxity?

Laser therapy can be used to treat common female issues of urine leakage, vaginal looseness and dryness that often occur with hormonal imbalances, after childbirth and ageing.

Our non invasive vaginal tightening treatment uses a photothermal heating effect for stimulating collagen, which is the protein responsible for keeping the skin elastic. By stimulating collagen in both the vaginal and urethral wall, the skin elasticity is restored, tightening the vaginal canal.

What Is Vaginal Laxity?

The vaginal walls are made up of collagen and fibrous material. When a woman goes through vaginal delivery, the vaginal walls are put through immense stress, which may lead to over-stretching of these walls which reduces the sensitivity as well as the tightness of the area, thus resulting in Vaginal Laxity.

Vaginal Laxity can also occur due to:

  • menopause
  • weight fluctuation
  • natural aging
  • cancer treatments
  • other factors.

How can Vaginal Laxity be improved?

There are 3 broad categories of treatment:

1. Exercises – Pelvic floor training and Kegel Exercises

This option requires discipline on regular implementation and may not be effective or suitable for everyone as they do not address the vaginal wall issues.

2. Surgery – Vaginoplasty

While this appears to be the most effective of all, not everyone wishes to go through this surgery to rebuild the vaginal wall.

3. Non-surgical methods utilising Radiofrequency energy and Laser devices

Radiofrequency energy (RF) devices deliver thermal energy to tighten the inner and outer vaginal area. It creates deep heat within tissues to stimulate collagen production to firm sagging skin and muscles within the vaginal canal.

Laser non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation usually includes the use of CO2 fractional or Erbium laser technology (Er:YAG). It sends pulses of laser energy into the vaginal tissue, which damages the surface of the skin and perforates the skin, signaling the body to repair itself. This healing process stimulates collagen remodeling, which is the protein responsible for keeping the skin elastic. By stimulating collagen, the skin elasticity is restored with formation of new collagen fibres, thus tightening the vaginal canal.

Our Approach To Vaginal Rejuvenation Treatment

Fusion Medical is one of the first aesthetic clinics in Singapore to use non-ablative laser therapy with a system that fully automates the procedure to provide even faster, more comfortable and precise delivery of energy, providing effective results for tightening.

What Other Conditions Can Be Treated?

1. Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI)

40% of women suffer from urinary incontinence and don’t often talk about it. Urinary incontinence is not just for the old, it is actually a common concern for females that often goes undiagnosed due to the stigma associated with it.

Stress Urinary Incontinence is a type of incontinence that results from increased pressure within the abdomen. It is a common and embarrassing female problem that causes involuntary urine leakage when they cough, sneeze or laugh. This involuntary leaking of urine may also occur during physical activities like exercising. For the gym goers, they may find themselves leaking whenever they exert themselves or carry weights.

Stress incontinence occurs due to the weakening and laxity of muscles and connective tissues controlling “continence”, that controls our flow of urine. It is caused by the weakening of the pelvic floor muscles mainly contributed to by childbirth, ageing and obesity.

2. Vaginal Atrophy (VA)

Vaginal Atrophy refers to thinning, drying and inflammation of the vaginal wall that occurs by hormonal imbalances, particularly when there is a fall in estrogen levels. Vaginal atrophy occurs most often after menopause. 60-80% of women over 50 will experience atrophy in their lifetime.

It is associated with vaginal dryness which can lead to pain and discomfort during sexual intercourse, and also increase the incidences of urinary tract infection and vaginal thrush.
