Sinopharm is the sixth vaccine to be authorised by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for its emergency listing, receiving WHO validation for safety, efficacy and quality. Unlike Pfizer- BioNtech/Comirnaty and Moderna which are messenger RNG (mRNA) vaccines, Sinopharm is an inactivated vaccine called SARS-CoV-2 Vaccine.
Fusion Medical has received MOH approval under the Special Access Route (SAR) to provide Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines in Singapore.
The Sinopharm COVID-19 Vaccine works like traditional vaccines, where it introduces a weakened version of COVID-19 virus, which triggers our immune system to fight the virus by producing antibodies to block the virus. As the vaccine uses dead or inactivated virus, the vaccine can be safely injected into the arm without causing the individual to develop COVID-19.
Any individuals with a history of anaphylaxis (serious life threatening allergic reaction) or any form of severe allergic reactions to mRNA vaccine should consult a doctor prior to receiving the Sinopharm vaccine.
The most commonly reported side effects in this trial were fever and pain at the injection site. Based on the data from clinical trials, the most common side effects recorded were:
These side effects can range from mild to moderate.
Three doses are required as a primary series. The first two doses should be taken 21 days apart while the third dose should be taken 90 days after the second dose.
3 doses of Sinopharm – S$146 inclusive of GST
Per booster dose – S$49 inclusive of GST
Yes, you can. The interval between the second and third dose should be at least 90 days.
Yes, you can. However, we would still recommend you to take mRNA vaccine where possible. The last vaccine should be taken at least more than 21 days ago before you proceed with the Sinopharm / Sinovac booster
While it is typically recommended for one to take the booster 3 months after the date of COVID-19 diagnosis, it also depends on the vaccine combination that one undergoes.
At present, persons who have recovered from COVID-19 and were fully vaccinated before their infection, do not need a booster dose.
Recovered persons who were unvaccinated, or partially vaccinated before their infection, should receive one dose of mRNA vaccine at least 3 months after infection to reduce their risk of reinfection, as part of their primary series vaccination. No additional booster dose is recommended at this time.
