BTL X-Wave cellulite treatment for thighs and buttocks.

BTL X-Wave, our X-Wave Cellulite Buster, uses acoustic waves to break up cellulite fat deposits and firm the skin in stubborn areas such as the buttocks and thighs.

What is BTL X-Wave cellulite treatment?

Acoustic waves that break up cellulite, with no needles or incisions.

BTL X-Wave is a non-invasive acoustic wave therapy, also known as shockwave therapy, that uses the energy of acoustic waves to break up cellulite fat deposits and firm the skin. It targets stubborn cellulite areas such as the buttocks and thighs, and improves skin texture and elasticity.

Cellulite is the dimpled appearance of the skin that commonly occurs on the hips, thighs and buttocks, and it is more common in women than in men. The lumpiness is caused by fat deposits that push and distort the connective tissue beneath the skin.

Our X-Wave Cellulite Buster works on the fat deposits and connective tissue behind cellulite, and aims to firm the skin and improve its texture. It is not a weight-loss procedure and does not replace surgery. Each body area is assessed first.

  • Acoustic waves — mechanical pulses, not laser or radiofrequency
  • 15–20 minutes — per area, depending on the target area
  • Stubborn areas — buttocks, thighs, hips and arms
  • Generally comfortable — most people feel a rapid tapping or some heat

How it works

How does X-Wave acoustic wave therapy treat cellulite?

A handheld applicator sends rapid acoustic pulses through the skin into the connective tissue beneath. The energy breaks up cellulite fat deposits, stimulates lymphatic drainage and remodels collagen to tighten the skin. For wider body contouring, it can be combined with other steps in one session.

Energy delivered through the skin

The applicator produces rapid mechanical pulses, also called shockwaves, that spread outwards from the point of contact. Coupling gel keeps the handpiece in good contact as it moves across the area in controlled passes.

Personalised assessment

What can BTL X-Wave help with?

BTL X-Wave is used for cellulite and saggy or loose skin. It is not a weight-loss procedure, and your doctor assesses each area first. We also offer body sculpting and toning treatments to reduce excess fat and tone different parts of the body, and post-natal slimming programmes.

Pregnant, on blood-thinning medicine or have a bleeding or vascular condition? Tell your doctor first.

  • Cellulite dimpling

Common on the hips, thighs and buttocks: acoustic waves break up the fat deposits that push and distort the connective tissue and cause cellulite's lumpy look.

  • Saggy or loose skin

Collagen remodelling helps tighten the skin and improve its texture and elasticity, so loose skin can look firmer.

  • Stubborn areas

Cellulite and loose skin in stubborn areas such as the inner thighs, hips, arms and buttocks, sometimes alongside other fat reduction treatments. Other areas are considered after assessment.

  • Body contouring plans

Our signature 3-step session breaks up and loosens cellulite, melts fat, then tightens and firms the skin.

Your treatment journey

Area assessment. Systematic treatment. Planned review.

  1. Consult

Your concern, medical history and any recent procedures are reviewed, and each body area is assessed separately.

  2. Prepare

The area is marked if needed, and coupling gel is applied so the applicator keeps good contact with the skin.

  3. Treat

Acoustic pulses are delivered as the applicator moves across the area in controlled passes, for about 15–20 minutes per area. You will generally feel a rapid tapping or vibration, and possibly some heat.

  4. Review

You can usually resume normal activities straight after. Your skin's response is checked and the course is planned; for the 3-step combination, 4 sessions one week apart are recommended.

Safety & expectations

Suitability comes first — each body area is assessed before a course is planned.

Temporary side effects can include redness, warmth, tenderness, swelling, bruising or soreness. Treatment may be unsuitable over active infection, open wounds, some vascular or bleeding conditions, or recently treated tissue, so tell your doctor about your medical history.

Acoustic Wave Therapy: frequently asked questions

What is BTL X-Wave cellulite treatment?

BTL X-Wave is a non-invasive cellulite treatment that uses acoustic waves, delivered through a handheld applicator, to break up cellulite fat deposits and firm the skin. At Fusion Medical in Singapore it is offered as the X-Wave Cellulite Buster for stubborn areas such as the buttocks and thighs. It is not a weight-loss treatment and does not replace surgery, exercise or a healthy diet.

Is BTL X-Wave the same as acoustic wave therapy or shockwave therapy?

Yes. BTL X-Wave is the device we use for acoustic wave therapy in Singapore, and the treatment is also called shockwave therapy for cellulite. It delivers acoustic (shock) waves to the skin and deeper tissues: mechanical sound-pressure pulses rather than laser light, intense pulsed light or radiofrequency energy. Coupling gel keeps the applicator in good contact with the skin as it moves across the area.

Does BTL X-Wave hurt, and is there downtime?

BTL X-Wave is generally comfortable. Most people feel a rapid tapping or vibration as the applicator moves across the skin, and you may feel some heat, which is bearable; the intensity is adjusted to the tissue and your comfort. You can usually resume normal activities after the session. Temporary tenderness or soreness can occur; contact the clinic if it persists.

How long does a BTL X-Wave session take?

Depending on the target area, BTL X-Wave takes about 15–20 minutes per area, so the length of your visit depends on how many areas are treated. When it is part of our signature 3-step body contouring treatment, all 3 steps are done in one session of about 1½ to 2 hours. Your doctor confirms which areas to treat.

When will I see results from BTL X-Wave?

Many patients see some results 2 weeks after BTL X-Wave, with continued improvement in the months to come, especially if you follow a healthy lifestyle and drink plenty of fluids. It is undertaken as part of a longer course; individual results vary, and your doctor reviews your progress over the course.

Can BTL X-Wave be combined with other treatments?

Yes. In some cases your doctor will recommend combining BTL X-Wave with other steps in our signature body contouring treatment, which consists of 3 steps: step 1 breaks up and loosens cellulite, step 2 melts fat, and step 3 tightens and firms the skin. The 3 treatments are done in one session of about 1½ to 2 hours, and 4 sessions are recommended one week apart.

Which areas can X-Wave treat?

X-Wave targets stubborn areas such as the buttocks, thighs (including the inner thighs), hips and arms, where cellulite or loose skin are concerns. Depending on your assessment, other areas such as the abdomen may be considered. Each body area is assessed and planned separately.

Who should not have acoustic wave therapy?

Acoustic wave therapy may be unsuitable over active infection, open wounds, some vascular or bleeding conditions, or recently treated tissue. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, take blood-thinning medicine or have had a recent procedure in the area, so the plan can be adjusted or another option considered.
