Fotona 4D is a non-invasive facelift that combines two complementary laser wavelengths, Nd:YAG and Er:YAG, to treat four distinct dimensions of the skin. It rejuvenates and tightens from the inside out: deep heating stimulates collagen for lifting, while a gentle erbium peel refreshes the surface.
Its non-ablative function delivers controlled, long pulse durations of laser energy to induce deep bulk heating of the dermis, gradually raising the temperature in the skin to stimulate collagen production for skin lifting.
Its ablative Erbium laser gently exfoliates the uppermost layer of skin. Done at higher intensity, this also helps to improve the appearance of scars.
How it works
The four dimensions of Fotona4D® are four distinct laser modes — SMOOTH®, FRAC3®, PIANO® and SupErficial™ — used in sequence. Treatment starts inside the mouth, then targets deeper lines and pigment, heats the skin for overall tightening and finishes with a light laser peel.
Step 1: SmoothLiftin™
Fotona 4D starts inside the mouth, where Er:YAG laser energy (SMOOTH® mode) kick-starts the tightening process around the jawline and perioral region. This step also helps to reduce expression lines such as the nasolabial folds and wrinkles.
Step 2: FRAC3®
Next, to complement the intraoral step, Nd:YAG energy targets deeper imperfections (such as deep lines) and pigment to restore a youthful texture and a more uniform overall complexion.
Step 3: PIANO®
A brushing technique rapidly applies Nd:YAG heating across the skin to create an overall tightening effect, for firmer, lifted skin.
Step 4: SupErficial™
Lastly, a light Er:YAG laser peel improves the appearance of the skin and addresses surface-level imperfections, so the skin looks refreshed and tightened.

In Fotona 4D, the Fotona laser's Nd:YAG wavelength heats the deeper skin and its Er:YAG wavelength gently resurfaces the top layer. Together they aim to lift and tighten saggy skin, stimulate collagen, improve fine lines and wrinkles, reduce scarring and hyperpigmentation, and plump the skin for better elasticity.
Our doctor will usually recommend a minimum of 2 Fotona 4D sessions, 1 month apart, for optimal outcomes. Thereafter, maintenance sessions may only be required once a year. Do discuss with our doctor to see whether this treatment is appropriate for you.
The effect of Fotona 4D gradually unfolds over a period of 2–3 months, with continuous improvement for up to 6 months after treatment. After the initial sessions, maintenance may only be needed once a year. How long results last varies from person to person.
Downtime is minimal. During Fotona 4D you will feel a warm, mild prickling sensation, and afterwards you may have slight redness that should subside within a few hours. Your doctor will explain any other possible effects for your skin and how to care for it, including sun protection while it settles.
A Fotona 4D session usually takes approximately 45 minutes to an hour. In that time the four steps are carried out in sequence: SmoothLiftin™ inside the mouth, then FRAC3®, PIANO® and SupErficial™ on the skin.
