Vaginal rejuvenation, without surgery.

After childbirth or with age, some women feel the vagina is looser than before. Fotona IntimaLase is a non-surgical laser treatment that aims to support collagen in the vaginal wall. It starts with a private consultation with one of our female doctors.

What is vaginal rejuvenation?

A private concern, discussed in confidence.

Vaginal rejuvenation is a broad name for treatments that aim to change how the vagina feels. At Fusion Medical Aesthetics, it means Fotona IntimaLase: a non-ablative Er:YAG laser that warms the vaginal wall, aiming to stimulate new collagen and a feeling of tightness, with no cutting or stitches.

Vaginal birth, ageing and weight change can all stretch the collagen-rich vaginal walls. Many women notice the difference but never mention it. A consultation is a private place to talk about it, with no obligation to go ahead.

Results vary from woman to woman, and the evidence for vaginal laser treatment is still developing. Your doctor explains what IntimaLase may and may not change before you decide.

  • Non-surgical — no cutting, stitches or general anaesthetic
  • About 10 minutes — for the laser itself, within a 30-minute visit
  • Little downtime — most women resume their day soon after
  • Female doctors — a private consultation before any treatment

How it works

How does IntimaLase vaginal tightening work?

IntimaLase sends short pulses of laser light to the vaginal wall, warming the tissue without removing its surface. The warmth aims to prompt new collagen; any firming develops gradually over the following weeks and varies between women. An automated handpiece delivers the energy in a set pattern.

Warmth, no cutting

IntimaLase uses a non-ablative Er:YAG laser: it warms the vaginal wall without removing the surface layer. The aim is to prompt the tissue to form new collagen, the protein that gives it strength and firmness. There is no cutting or stitching.

Who may consider IntimaLase?

Women usually ask about IntimaLase when the vagina feels looser than before. Your doctor asks about childbirth, your health and what you hope will change, examines you, and explains whether the laser, another option or no treatment suits you.

Pregnant, or have bleeding, an infection or a vaginal lesion? The laser is not suitable.

  • After childbirth

Vaginal birth can stretch the vaginal walls, and some women feel less tightness afterwards. Your doctor advises on timing after a birth and while breastfeeding.

  • Changes with age

Ageing and weight change can alter how the vaginal canal feels. Your doctor explains what a laser may change and what it won't.

  • Confidence and comfort

Some women simply want to feel more like themselves. A consultation lets you ask questions in private, at your own pace.

  • Deciding whether it suits you

Not sure the laser is right for you? Your doctor explains the possible benefits, the limits, the risks and the alternatives, including surgery.

Your treatment journey

Private consultation. Short session. Planned review.

  1. Consult

Share your concerns privately with one of our female doctors. She asks about childbirth, your health and what you hope will change. There is no obligation to go ahead.

  2. Assess

An examination checks for infection, bleeding, a lesion or another cause that needs treating first. Your doctor then confirms whether IntimaLase suits you, and when.

  3. Treat

You lie on the treatment couch and a numbing cream may be applied. The automated handpiece is placed in the vaginal canal and the laser takes about 10 minutes; most women feel warmth.

  4. Review

Resume your daily routine soon after and avoid intercourse for 3 days. Any further session is at least 1 month later, after your doctor reviews how you feel.

Safety & expectations

Suitability comes first: our female doctors assess you before any laser treatment.

IntimaLase can cause warmth, mild swelling or a slight watery discharge for a few days. The US FDA has warned of reports of burns, scarring and ongoing pain after energy-based vaginal treatments. Tell your doctor about pregnancy, bleeding, infection, diabetes or an autoimmune condition, and contact the clinic promptly if you have pain, bleeding or fever afterwards.

Vaginal Rejuvenation: frequently asked questions

What is vaginal rejuvenation, and is it the same as vaginal tightening?

Vaginal rejuvenation is a broad term for treatments that aim to improve how the vagina feels, and vaginal tightening is one of those aims. At Fusion Medical Aesthetics in Singapore, vaginal rejuvenation is Fotona IntimaLase: a non-surgical, non-ablative Er:YAG laser that aims to support collagen and tighten the vaginal canal. It is not surgery, and results vary from woman to woman.

Is IntimaLase suitable for me?

It may suit women who feel the vagina is looser after childbirth or with age, once a doctor has examined them. It is not suitable during pregnancy, or for women with a history of wound-healing disorders, diabetes, an autoimmune disease, vaginal bleeding, an infection or a lesion such as a growth. Your doctor confirms whether it suits you, and when.

Does IntimaLase hurt, and is there downtime?

Most women feel warmth during IntimaLase, and it is generally well tolerated; a numbing cream may be applied first. The laser itself takes about 10 minutes, with no cutting or stitches. Most women resume their daily routine soon after, but sexual intercourse should be avoided for 3 days. Contact the clinic if you have pain, bleeding or fever afterwards.

How many sessions are needed, and how long do results last?

The number of sessions varies from woman to woman. Any change develops gradually, and a second and a third session can be done at least 1 month apart if your doctor recommends them. Changes differ between women and may not last indefinitely, so your doctor reviews how you feel before planning more.

Is laser vaginal rejuvenation FDA-approved, and what does the evidence show?

No. In 2018 the US FDA warned that it had not cleared or approved any energy-based device, including lasers, for vaginal rejuvenation or looseness, after reports of burns, scarring and pain. Evidence for vaginal laser treatment such as IntimaLase is still developing, and results vary. Your doctor explains the possible benefits, limits, risks and other options before you decide.

Is it private and discreet?

Yes. You can talk about your concern privately with one of our female doctors, and you can ask questions before deciding anything. There is no obligation to go ahead after a consultation.

How is IntimaLase different from vaginoplasty?

Vaginoplasty is surgery that tightens the vagina by repairing or removing tissue, with stitches and a longer recovery. IntimaLase is a non-surgical laser session of about 10 minutes, with no cutting, that aims for a milder change by supporting collagen in the vaginal wall. Vaginoplasty is performed by a gynaecologist or plastic surgeon, and your doctor can discuss a referral if surgery is worth considering.
