DPL laser · Singapore

Dynamic Pulsed Light Laser for pigment, acne and hair.

A non-ablative, non-invasive treatment that combines laser and advanced intense pulsed light to treat melasma, acne and dull skin. It is also widely used for body and facial hair removal.

What is Dynamic Pulsed Light Laser?

Laser and pulsed light in one treatment, for skin and hair removal.

Dynamic Pulsed Light (DPL) Laser is a non-ablative, non-invasive treatment that combines laser and advanced intense pulsed light. It promotes cell renewal and boosts collagen and elastin production to improve the appearance of the skin, and it is also widely used for hair removal.

DPL uses Dynamic Toning Technology, or D-Light: a new shape of light pulse created from a combination of IPL and laser power sources. It can target the lower layer of the skin (the dermis) without affecting the top layer (the epidermis).

Because its energy is low-fluence, high-density and fast, there is little to no downtime. You may feel a warm, mild prickling sensation during treatment, and slight redness should subside within a few hours.

  • Laser + IPL — D-Light pulses from both power sources
  • Non-ablative — targets the dermis, sparing the epidermis
  • Little to no downtime — slight redness should subside within a few hours
  • Most skin types — including darker skin, after a consultation

How it works

How does Dynamic Pulsed Light Laser work?

DPL uses Dynamic Toning Technology (D-Light), light pulses created from a combination of IPL and laser power sources. Its low-fluence, high-density energy reaches the dermis without affecting the epidermis, promoting cell renewal, collagen and elastin. For hair removal, the light is absorbed by the hair root at a controlled intensity.

Session time Usually around 45 minutes to an hour. It depends largely on the type and area of treatment.
During treatment A warm, mild prickling sensation. Protective eyewear is worn during treatment.
Downtime Little to no downtime; slight redness should subside within a few hours. Avoid tanning and follow sun-protection advice.
Skin types Suitable for most skin types, including dark skin. A consultation with our doctors comes first, and settings are matched to your skin tone.
Hair removal Light energy targets the dark pigment in the hair follicle; multiple sessions are commonly required. Hair needs enough pigment to respond; white, grey, very light blond or some red hair may respond poorly.

Your treatment journey

Assess. Protect. Treat. Aftercare.

  1. Assess

The doctor reviews your concern, skin type, hair colour, medicines, recent tanning and the area to be treated.

  2. Prepare

For hair removal, hair is trimmed or shaved as directed. Gel is applied and your eyes are protected.

  3. Treat

Light pulses are delivered systematically across the area, with a warm, mild prickling sensation. Sessions usually take around 45 minutes to an hour.

  4. Aftercare

Slight redness should subside within a few hours. Avoid tanning and follow the sun-protection and interval advice you are given.

Safety & expectations

Skin tone, hair colour and timing all matter — your doctor matches the settings to you.

Temporary redness, warmth, swelling around follicles or sensitivity can occur. Burns, blistering, scarring, lighter or darker pigment and paradoxical hair growth are possible. Avoid tanning and follow the clinic's preparation and sun-protection instructions carefully.

Dynamic Pulsed Light Laser: frequently asked questions

What is dynamic pulsed light (DPL)?

Dynamic Pulsed Light (DPL) Laser is a non-ablative, non-invasive treatment that combines laser and advanced intense pulsed light technology. It treats skin concerns such as melasma, acne and dull skin by promoting cell renewal and boosting collagen and elastin production, and it is also widely used for body and facial hair removal.

Is dynamic pulsed light the same as IPL?

Not exactly. DPL uses Dynamic Toning Technology (D-Light), a new shape of light pulse created from a combination of IPL and laser power sources. It can target the dermis without affecting the epidermis, and its low-fluence, high-density energy and speed mean little to no downtime.

How does DPL laser hair removal work?

DPL delivers light at a controlled intensity over the root of the hair. The hair root absorbs the light energy and converts it into heat, destroying the dark pigment in the follicle to help prevent regrowth. Hair needs enough pigment to respond, so white, grey, very light blond or some red hair may respond poorly.

How many DPL hair removal sessions will I need?

DPL hair removal usually needs multiple sessions. Hair follicles cycle through different growth phases, and light-based treatment works on suitable hairs in an active growth phase, so sessions are spaced over time. The number of sessions and the interval depend on your hair, skin and treatment area, and your doctor advises on them at consultation.

How long does each DPL session take?

The length of each Dynamic Pulsed Light Laser session depends largely on the type and area of treatment. It usually takes around 45 minutes to an hour per session, and your doctor explains the plan for your concern at consultation.

Is there any downtime after Dynamic Pulsed Light Laser?

There is little to no downtime. You will feel a warm, mild prickling sensation during DPL treatment, and slight redness afterwards that should subside in a few hours. Avoid tanning and protect the treated skin from the sun.

Am I suitable for Dynamic Pulsed Light Laser treatment?

Dynamic Pulsed Light Laser treatment is suitable for most skin types, including dark skin. We still suggest that you consult our doctors to discuss your concerns and receive recommendations on suitable treatment options. Tell the doctor about pregnancy, recent tanning, photosensitising medicines or previous reactions.

What risks should I know about with DPL?

Redness and swelling around follicles are common temporary responses to DPL. Burns, blistering, scarring, lighter or darker pigment and paradoxical hair growth are possible and should be discussed with your doctor before treatment. Following the preparation and sun-protection advice helps reduce these risks.
