LTA medical check-ups for vocational licences

The HMER examination for taxi, private hire and bus licences at Wheelock Place, with an X-ray room on site for the chest X-ray new applicants need. Bring the letter with your QR code.

What is the HMER medical check-up?

One digital form for both LTA and the Traffic Police.

The Harmonised Medical Examination Report (HMER) is the single medical form LTA and the Traffic Police use for vocational licences. The doctor opens it from the QR code in your letter, examines you against the standard for your licence class and submits the result digitally to both agencies. You receive an SMS once it is submitted.

New applicants also need a chest X-ray after receiving LTA's Approval to Attend Course letter. Licence holders are called for regular reviews: every two years from age 50 to 64, and every year from 65 to 74.

  • HMER — one form for LTA and the Traffic Police
  • QR code — in your letter: bring it to the visit

Why you're here

Applying, renewing or called for review?

The letter you received decides the check-up. New applicants come after LTA's Approval to Attend Course letter and need a chest X-ray. Existing holders are called for regular reviews from age 50. Drivers with some medical conditions may need a specialist's memo before the doctor can submit.

Applying for a vocational licence

Once LTA approves your application, you receive an Approval to Attend Course (ATC) letter with the HMER QR code. You then need the medical check-up and a chest X-ray; LTA asks for an X-ray report signed by a radiologist. We take the X-ray on site and provide the radiologist-signed report.

LTA Licence Check-Ups: frequently asked questions

What is the HMER?

The Harmonised Medical Examination Report is the single digital medical form LTA and the Traffic Police use for vocational licences; it replaced their separate forms. The examining doctor opens it from the QR code in your letter, completes it after examining you and submits it to both agencies.

How often do vocational licence holders need a medical?

LTA calls licence holders for a medical every two years from age 50 to 64, and every year from 65 to 74. Since 2 February 2026, drivers aged 65 and over receive one notification letter a year instead of two. Always follow the due date in your own letter.

Do new vocational licence applicants need a chest X-ray?

Yes. LTA asks new applicants to have a medical check-up and a chest X-ray after receiving the Approval to Attend Course letter, and to bring a chest X-ray report signed by a radiologist. We take the X-ray on site and provide the radiologist-signed report; tell us when you book that you need the X-ray.

Can any clinic do the LTA medical?

The examination must be done by a Singapore-registered doctor, and you can choose the clinic. Not every clinic offers licensing medicals, so check before you go. We do LTA medicals for taxi, private hire car, bus driver and bus attendant licences at Wheelock Place, with all the tests on site; bring your letter with the QR code.

What if I have a medical condition?

Bring your latest specialist reports, discharge summaries and medicines list. For some conditions, LTA asks for a specialist's memo certifying that you are fit to drive a public service vehicle, and the doctor can only submit the HMER once it is ready.

When will LTA receive my result?

The doctor submits the HMER digitally once the assessment is complete, and you receive an SMS confirmation. For new applicants, LTA says it sends a second SMS within three working days if your medical is accepted.

What should I bring to an LTA medical?

Your letter with the QR code, your NRIC, the glasses, contact lenses or hearing aids you normally use, a list of your medicines, and any specialist memos or reports. New applicants also need a chest X-ray report; tell us when you book if you need the X-ray done.
