Student's Pass and school enrolment medical check-ups

Bring ICA's medical report and your school's health form together: one examination, with the chest X-ray and blood tests on site at Wheelock Place.

What does a Student's Pass medical check-up involve?

One student, often two separate forms.

If your in-principle approval letter asks for one, the Student's Pass medical uses ICA's Medical Examination Report: a chest X-ray to check for active tuberculosis and an HIV test, certified by the examining doctor. Your school or university may also send its own pre-enrolment health form, a separate document with its own checks and deadline.

Courses in medicine, nursing, dentistry and other clinical or laboratory work often ask for more, such as hepatitis B results or vaccination records, so check the course checklist early.

  • Two forms — ICA's report and your school's own
  • TB and HIV — the two checks on ICA's report
  • 3 months — ICA accepts the report within 3 months of issue
  • Clinical courses — may ask for hepatitis B results or vaccine records

Which forms apply

Which student medical forms do you need?

Your pass, school and course can each add a form. International students may need ICA's report for the Student's Pass, the school may send its own health form, and clinical and laboratory courses often add vaccination or blood-test evidence. Bring every form to one visit, so you are examined once.

What to bring

A chest X-ray film on a lightbox

ICA Medical Examination Report

Needed if your IPA letter asks for it. The doctor certifies a chest X-ray for active tuberculosis and an HIV test on ICA's form, which you submit to ICA before the pass is issued. ICA accepts it within three months of issue.

Who it's for

Who needs a student medical?

Local and international students can both need one, depending on the school, the course and the pass.

Menstruation can affect a urine test. If your period is due, tell us when you book.

Your student medical, step by step

Collect. Examine. Complete. Submit.

  1. Collect

Gather the current forms for your school and course, and ICA's form if your letter asks for it, and send them when you book.

  2. Examine

Bring your passport and admission documents. The doctor takes your history and examines you; the X-ray and samples are taken on site.

  3. Complete

When the results are back, the doctor completes and signs each form, with any vaccination or lab evidence your course needs.

  4. Submit

Submit ICA's report and the school form through their own channels before the deadline, and keep copies where allowed.

Questions

Bring every form to one visit, and fill in only your own sections.

Check your school's admission portal for the current form and deadline, and your ICA letter for whether a medical report is needed.

Student Enrolment Check-Ups: frequently asked questions

Is the school medical form the same as the ICA report?

Usually not. Your school's pre-enrolment form and ICA's Medical Examination Report for the Student's Pass are separate documents, often with different checks, deadlines and ways to submit. Bring both to the same visit, and submit each one through its own channel.

What does a Student's Pass medical include?

ICA's Medical Examination Report has two checks: a chest X-ray to look for active tuberculosis and an HIV test, each certified by the examining doctor. You only need it if your in-principle approval letter asks for it, and ICA accepts it within three months of the date it is issued.

What does a pre-enrolment check-up include?

It usually includes your medical history, measurements such as height and weight, and a physical examination. Urine, blood, chest X-ray or other tests are added only when the school's form or your course asks for them.

Do healthcare students need extra screening?

Often, yes. Many clinical and laboratory courses ask for vaccination records, hepatitis B results or other occupational health screening. Check the course form early: if you need a vaccine series or an immunity blood test, it takes time to complete before placements start.

Can I do the medical overseas?

For ICA's report, first-time applicants may be examined in their home country or place of residence, but renewal applicants must be examined in Singapore. Schools set their own rules for their forms, so check both before you book a clinic overseas.

Should I avoid a urine test during my period?

Menstruation can affect a urine test. If your period is due around your appointment, tell us when you book, so the test can be timed to avoid a repeat sample within your school's deadline.

What if a result is abnormal?

The doctor explains the result and any follow-up you need. An abnormal result does not automatically stop you enrolling: your school or ICA decides, and may ask for more reports. Allow time before your deadline in case a repeat test is needed.
