Women's health screening · Singapore

Women's health screening, planned around your life stage.

What you need depends on your age, history and any symptoms. Our female doctors confirm which screening is due, arrange it at Wheelock Place, where mammograms and ultrasound are done on site, and explain your results.

What should a women's health screening include?

Start with the screening due at your age, not a long list of tests.

A women's health screening should include the screening recommended for your age and risk, reviewed by a doctor. Singapore guidance covers a Pap or HPV test from 25 if you have ever had sex; blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol checks from 40; a mammogram every year from 40 to 49 after discussing it with your doctor, then every two years from 50; and a yearly stool test (FIT) from 50.

A comprehensive women's health review connects that screening with your life stage, symptoms, medicines, family history and previous results, instead of ordering every test available. Our doctors then help you choose single tests or a package. Pelvic ultrasound and hormone tests, part of some packages, can help when symptoms or findings call for them, but they do not replace a Pap test or a mammogram.

  • From 25 — a Pap or HPV test, if you have ever had sex
  • From 40 — heart and blood sugar checks, and a mammogram
  • From 50 — a mammogram every two years and a yearly stool test
  • Female doctors — for your consultation, examination and results

The core screens

Four checks form the core of women's screening.

Singapore's screening guidance for women covers four checks, each with its own test, starting age and interval. Other tests can help when symptoms or findings call for them, but none replaces these four: a pelvic ultrasound does not screen for cervical cancer, and a breast ultrasound does not replace a mammogram.

Mammogram, from 40

A mammogram is a low-dose X-ray of the breasts that can show changes too small to feel. It is advised every year from 40 to 49, once you have discussed the benefits and limitations with your doctor, and every two years from 50. We do 2D and 3D mammograms on site.

Eligible residents can have subsidised Healthier SG Screening here, and CHAS, Merdeka Generation and Pioneer Generation cardholders are welcome.

Your screening, step by step

Review. Prioritise. Screen. Connect.

  1. Review

Your doctor goes through your age, periods, pregnancies, symptoms, medicines, family history and previous results. Bring past reports if you have them.

  2. Prioritise

Screening that is due is separated from any concern that needs its own assessment, and recent tests are not repeated.

  3. Screen

Most tests are done on site at Wheelock Place. Choose a date about a week after your period, and fast only if your blood tests need it.

  4. Connect

Your doctor explains your results, tells you when each screen is next due and arranges treatment or a referral if needed.

Good to know

A normal result doesn't explain a new symptom, and an abnormal one isn't a diagnosis by itself.

Tell us if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have breast implants or have had breast surgery. Bring previous mammograms, Pap or HPV results and blood tests so they can be compared.

Comprehensive Women’s Health: frequently asked questions

Where can I get a women's health screening in Singapore?

Fusion Medical offers women's health screening, sometimes called a well-woman check, at Wheelock Place, 501 Orchard Road, near Orchard MRT. Our female doctors carry out the consultation and examination, mammograms and ultrasound are done on site, and a Pap or HPV test and a breast check can be done in the same visit. You can book single tests or one of our health screening packages, and a doctor explains your results.

Is it worth adding a mammogram to my health screening?

From 50, yes: HealthHub advises a screening mammogram every two years. From 40 to 49, a yearly mammogram is advised once you have discussed its benefits and limitations with your doctor. Before 40, your doctor may suggest one if your risk is higher, for example because of a strong family history. A breast ultrasound can add detail in dense breasts, but it does not replace a mammogram.

Can I have a Pap smear and a breast check in the same visit?

Yes, a Pap or HPV test and a breast check can be arranged in the same women's health screening visit, and a mammogram can be added if you are due for one. Mention both when you book so they can be scheduled together, and choose a date away from your period, as blood can affect the cervical sample. A new breast lump or unusual bleeding should be assessed promptly rather than left for routine screening.

Which screening tests do women need at 40 and at 50?

At 40, women usually add blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol checks, and a yearly mammogram once they have discussed it with their doctor, while cervical screening continues. At 50, the mammogram moves to every two years, and a yearly stool test (FIT) for bowel cancer begins, or a colonoscopy if your doctor advises it. After menopause, a bone health check is worth discussing. Family history or earlier results can change this plan.

Should I avoid booking a health screening during my period?

Yes, if your women's health screening includes a urine test, a stool test, or a Pap or HPV test, because menstrual blood can make these results inaccurate. Aim for about seven days after your period ends, around day 10 to 14 of your cycle, which is also the recommended time for a mammogram. If your period starts unexpectedly, contact the clinic, as the affected tests may need a new date.

How much does a women's health screening cost?

It depends on whether you book single tests or a package. Our women's packages cost S$790 (Fusion Merdeka Female), S$1,690 (Fusion Breast & Women's Health, or Fusion Perimenopause & Menopause), S$1,890 (Fusion Pearl Female) and S$2,890 (Fusion Opal Female), inclusive of GST. A Pap test or a mammogram can also be booked on its own, and we confirm the fee when you book.

Can I use MediSave for a women's health screening?

Yes, for some tests. Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents aged 50 and above can use MediSave for a screening mammogram or a screening colonoscopy, within CPF MediSave limits. Fusion Medical also offers subsidised screening under Healthier SG Screening, previously Screen for Life, for eligible residents, and CHAS, Merdeka Generation and Pioneer Generation cardholders are welcome. Our team can check what applies to you before your appointment.

Should I wait for screening if I notice a breast lump or abnormal bleeding?

No. A new breast lump, a nipple change, bleeding between periods, after sex or after menopause, or ongoing pelvic pain needs a doctor's assessment now, even if your routine screening is not due or your last result was normal. Screening is designed for women without symptoms, so book a consultation rather than wait.
